Those looking to move over the last year have realised there have been limited numbers of properties on the market, with new listings being snapped up incredibly quickly.

Demand has been high as we have seen more buyers than sellers, and this resulted in the rise of house prices every month for the last 12 months. However, we have started to see more properties come onto the market, and more people request valuations, and so we anticipate a more balanced market where supply can start to keep up with the demand.

Rightmove have also reported higher number of properties listed for sale than compared to the same time 12 months ago. Their property expert Tim Bannister commented: “New instructions to agents are up 14% in the last two weeks compared to last year, which will be welcome news for buyers wanting more choice, and the high number of valuation requests we’ve recorded is a positive sign of more potential choice to come.”

Jamie Smart, founder of smarthomes, added: “We’ve seen a steady increase in the number of requests for valuations recently, which is a great indicator that there will be more choice for buyers over the next few weeks and months. However, the market is still very competitive and so people who are serious about buying need to move quickly and ideally have their mortgage agreed in principle to be able to secure their next home.”
