What home buyers search for
According to Rightmove, the UK’s largest property website, the top three search terms used to find properties on their site are….
… garage, annexe and then acre!
Possibly not the most obvious ones that anyone would have guessed! The next most popular are garden and detached – slightly more predictable.
Garages are appealing, but not necessarily to park the car in. These days they’re most commonly used for storage space, or for the potential to create some extra living space. They can easily be converted into a playroom, a snooker room or a self-contained apartment.
Annexes are popular for several reasons – they provide a rental income opportunity, or they can provide close (but not too close!) accommodation for family members, whether it’s older relatives that need some support, or the younger generation that are struggling to buy.
However, it’s really interesting to see that what people search for, or what they think they may want, often turns out to be not what they go for! Jamie Smart, Director of smarthomes commented, “The smarthomes team are all incredibly experienced and knowledgeable about both property and people! They’re able to read between the lines and ask the right questions to discover what’s really important to a buyer, and what they’re likely to end up actually buying.”
